Leeds U23 absences hints at pair securing first-team spots for Wolves clash

The latest Leeds United U23 squad has hinted at senior call-ups for a pair of the club’s up-and-coming talents versus Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Wolves test

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are of course set to return to action tomorrow afternoon, in a Premier League meeting with Wolves.

The Whites head into the Elland Road clash aware that nothing but a positive result will suffice, on the back of a frankly abysmal campaign thus far.

As things stand, Leeds sit just a solitary place above the English top-flight’s drop zone, owing to just one victory from their eight league outings.

Wolves, however, will prove no pushovers.

Bruno Lage’s men have begun to click into gear over recent weeks, and will make the trip to West Yorkshire buoyed by victories in four of the club’s last five Premier League fixtures.

Gelhardt to feature?

In turn, it no doubt came as a blow for all associated with Leeds when word was forthcoming during the week that a host of the club’s key performers – including Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips – are set to miss out on Saturday afternoon.

As outlined above, though, if the latest word stemming from the club’s youth setup is anything to go by, then Marcelo Bielsa looks primed to promote from within for Saturday’s Elland Road clash.

Leeds’ U23s are currently locked in action with Brighton & Hove Albion, in a Premier League 2 showdown.

Two of the shining lights in Mark Jackson’s setup, however, in the form of Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Cresswell, were not handed call-ups:

Such a decision, in turn, would certainly appear to suggest that both starlets are primed to take their places in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team squad on Saturday afternoon.
