Leandro Trossard’s agent confirms Genk star could join Arsenal

The agent of Genk attacker Leandro Trossard has this morning opened up on the possibility of his client joining Premier League giants Arsenal.

Genk standout

Trossard, a gifted 24-year-old winger who can also play in a more central role, is highly-regarded in his home country of Belgium.

The Red Devils’ U21-international, who was included in two of Roberto Martinez’s senior squads last year, came up through the youth ranks of Genk, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup on a consistent basis during the 2016-17 campaign.

And, after seeing his stock continue to rise over the course of an injury-hit season last time out, during which he directly contributed to 12 goals in just 19 appearances, Trossard has since taken his game to another level altogether to this point in the current campaign.

The pacy wide-man, who generally lines out on the left before cutting in onto his trusty right foot, has notched a hugely-impressive 22 goals and 9 assists thus far this season.

Arsenal interest confirmed

As such, Trossard’s stellar showings at the Cristal Arena have unsurprisingly seen a number of European heavyweights begin to express an interest in the Belgian’s signature.

Of these clubs, Arsenal have been the most-persistently linked, with the Genk star’s agent, Josy Comhair, having confirmed in an interview late last year that the Gunners view Trossard as ‘an option’.

‘I contacted representatives from Arsenal and Tottenham,’ Comhair told Sporza.

‘At Tottenham, nobody has wanted to confirm that Trossard is an option.’

‘But Arsenal does.’

‘Immediately at the highest level’

And, on the back of further links between Arsenal and the Belgian since the turn of the year, Trossard’s representative has since provided the latest on his client’s future.

Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad earlier today, Comhair discussed the prospect of Trossard lining out in the Bundesliga, before once again confirming that Arsenal remain a potential landing spot:

‘There is no agreement with any club yet. But I think that Germany is a beautiful country for him. You can take it one step higher via Germany.’

‘With Arsenal you are immediately at the highest level. You can almost only go down. But yes, it can also be Arsenal.’

Comhair also provided an insight into the fee that will likely be required to coax Genk into a sale:

‘If you sell Ndidi for €17m, you can sell Leandro for 20, you know. For less than 20 million you don’t have Leandro.’
