Leandro Paredes accused of deliberate red card to attend Copa Libertadores final

Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Leandro Paredes has been accused of being deliberately sent off in order to attend the Copa Libertadores final.

The Argentine saw red against Akhmat Grozny meaning he will miss the Russian club’s next game against CSKA Moscow.

Paredes’ boyhood club Boca Juniors face River Plate in the first-leg of the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday.

Russian supporters have accused the player of attempting to see red on purpose so as to travel back to Argentina for the game.

These claims have not been backed up, neither are the footballing authorities planning to deal with the matter.

The 25-year-old recklessly lunged into a tackle in the 83rd minute to receive a second yellow card of the game.

Boca host River Plate on Saturday at 20:00 (GMT).
