Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny looks to have suffered a horror injury during the clubs Europa League clash with Atletico Madrid on Thursday.
The Frenchman has not reached the usual high standards that he has shown in recent years but is still an incredibly important player in the Arsenal defence.
He lined up for the Gunners this evening as they looked to be the first side to score against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano since 20th January.
They needed to do just that if they were to progress through to the Europa League final but it was Koscielny’s injury which dominated the headlines.
The Frenchman went down off the ball with no one around him after taking a step, instantly clutching his Achilles.
The player has been suffering with an injury in that position during the current campaign but it looks as if it finally give way.
The defender shot to the ground and was in extreme pain judging by his reaction, punching the ground and leaving the pitch in tears on a stretcher.
While it’s possible to speculate over the injury, all anyone can hope is that the player’s injury is not as serious as first thought.
The injury could also come as a huge blow to the French national team with the player possibly featuring at the World Cup this summer.
Raphaël Varane and Samuel Umtiti will now likely start at the competition as the sides two main central defenders.

Antoine Griezmann’s distraught reaction to Koscielny’s injury speaks volumes of the Arsenal man’s importance to the France dressing room. Huge blow.
