Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl this afternoon provided an update on the fitness of midfielder James Ward-Prowse, ahead of the club’s meeting with Burnley.
Southampton vs Burnley
The Saints are set to welcome Sean Dyche’s men to St. Mary’s on Saturday afternoon, in their return to Premier League action following the international break.
The matchup will come as an important one for both sides, as they aim to move further away from the relegation zone.
As things stand, Southampton and Burnley are locked on 31 points, 7 clear of the drop zone.
The Clarets will head into proceedings in fine form of late, having secured 2 wins and a draw from their last 3 league outings.
Southampton, on the other hand, have managed just a solitary win in their last 5 across all competitions.
The Saints’ hopes of getting their form back on track in 2 days’ time, though, has today been boosted by some positive news on the injury front.
Southampton’s last outing, an FA Cup replay defeat to Spurs last week, saw key midfielder James Ward-Prowse stretchered off with what, at the time, looked a serious knee injury.
Some even went as far as to speculate that the 25-year-old’s season may be over.
This, though, has since proven far from the case.
Speaking in a press conference this afternoon, Ralph Hasenhuttl was asked for an update on Ward-Prowse’s wellbeing.
And the Southampton boss went on to confirm that his side’s midfield creator could be fit to feature versus Burnley:
‘We must pay attention that the cut is not going to open again but it looks good and hopefully he can play on the weekend.’
