The Toffees are set to get their Premier League campaign back underway on Sunday afternoon, in a high-profile clash with Solskjaer’s United.
Everton will head into proceedings in search of a bounce-back performance, on the back of a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal last time out.
This brought to an end a fine vein of form on the part of the Merseyside outfit, which had seen them go undefeated since the beginning of the year, and rack up consecutive wins over Watford and Crystal Palace.
Their defeat at the Emirates, though, has seen Carlo Ancelotti’s men slip back into the bottom-half of the English top-flight table ahead of this weekend.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are no doubt set to provide a stern test for Everton, on the back of a stellar run of their own of late.
The Red Devils’ 5-0 drubbing of Club Brugge in the Europa League last night came as their 5th win in 7 across all competitions, a stretch which has also seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men remain undefeated.
As such, ahead of a major test of his side’s credentials on Sunday, Carlo Ancelotti this afternoon provided a fitness update on his squad.
First, the Italian tactician confirmed that Andre Gomes is in line to make his first start since November, having impressed in his return off the bench at Arsenal last weekend.
Theo Walcott is also available to feature, though a late fitness test will be required before a decision is made on Lucas Digne’s potential involvement.

‘French midfielder Schneiderlin sustained a torn meniscus and underwent surgery this week to repair the cartilage.’
