Atletico Madrid vs Arsenal
Arsenal’s season will live or die on Thursday night in Spain.
1-1 after the first-leg at the Emirates Stadium last week, Arsenal face Atletico Madrid in their Europa League semifinal.
Will the Gunners rue their opportunities for the first-leg in north London?
Atletico played the majority of the match with just 10-men after Sime Vrsaljko’s red card in the 10th minute.
Yet, an Antoine Griezmann equaliser late on has put Atletico in the box seat for a place in the final.
Frank Lampard is ‘scared’ for Arsenal
In his match preview in the London Evening Standard, former Chelsea star Frank Lampard has admitted he’s ‘scared’ for Arsenal.
Lampard’s “fear” is due to one man: Diego Costa.
Costa missed the first-leg at Arsenal through injury, but the former Chelsea striker is now available again.
Can Arsenal handle him? Lampard doesn’t think so. The Blues all-time scorer said:
Arsenal’s task of beating Atletico Madrid was already tough, but it’s a lot harder with Diego Costa now up against them.
Not only is he a big physical presence, he has great quality to score goals. That is why I fear for Arsenal on Thursday night in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final.
We know that Arsenal defenders don’t like being manhandled or strong-armed and Costa is a master at that. He has played well against them before in a Chelsea shirt.
Arsenal have lost every single away match in the Premier League in 2018.
They have won twice on the road this year in the Europa League, however. That includes a win at the San Siro against AC Milan.
