Chelsea boss Lampard responds to Ross Barkley being linked with West Ham

Barkley’s Chelsea stint

Ross Barkley made the switch to Chelsea from Everton in January of 2018 for a fee believed to be around £15m.

But while Barkley looked like a really promising talent when honing his craft on Merseyside, his Chelsea spell hasn’t been the most fruitful.

The Englishman made just two Premier League appearances in his first half-season with the London outfit.

Barkley would enjoy more minutes during the 2018/19 campaign, earning 27 PL appearances.

However, Barkley would rarely play the full 90 minutes in any of those ties, and often came on as a sub.

The 26-year-old did have a fairly positive start to this term with Frank Lampard now in the Chelsea dugout.

However, in recent weeks, Barkley’s game time has been extremely limited.

The midfielder would complete 90 minutes this past weekend vs Burnley, but before that tie, Barkley had not featured in Chelsea’s previous 12 league outings.

Lampard on Barkley

So, with Euro 2020 around the corner, you would think that Barkley would want as many minutes as possible in order to give himself the best chance of earning a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

But if recent games are anything to go by, it doesn’t look like Barkley would be garnering enough game time at Chelsea.

And with the winter transfer window now in full swing, Barkley has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge to fellow Premier League outfit West Ham.

However, Frank Lampard was recently asked about Barkley’s links to West Ham, and the Chelsea boss seemed quite keen to keep the midfielder:

“There’s no talk here of Ross Barkley going anywhere; he’s our player. He’s played the last couple of games and done very well. I’ve got a lot of faith in Ross.

“That was news I heard just like everyone else, but there’s absolutely no feeling towards that here. I’m very happy with him.” As quoted by the Independent.
