When the team sheets came out on Sunday for the Premier League match at St James’ Park, there was a shock in the Arsenal XI.

The Newcastle and Arsenal line-ups were as follows.

Newcastle: Dubravka, Lejeune, Lascelles, Dummett, Yedlin, Diame, Kenedy, Shelvey, Ritchie, Gayle, Ayoze Perez

Subs: Darlow, Clark, Manquillo, Hayden, Murphy, Slimani, Joselu

Arsenal: Cech; Chambers, Mustafi, Holding, Monreal; Elneny, Xhaka, Willock; Iwobi, Aubameyang, Lacazette

Subs: Ospina, Maitland-Niles, Mertesacker, Kolasinac, Nelson, Welbeck, Nketiah

Lacazette & Aubameyang both start

For the first time under Arsene Wenger, Arsenal went with their two main strikers in the XI.

Both French international Alexandre Lacazette and Gabon star Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang were both in the Arsenal team.

The excitement continued for Arsenal fans as Joe Willock was also in the starting lineup. The 18-year-old was handed his Premier League starting debut.

After Reiss Nelson got his chance to impress against Southampton last weekend, it’s Willock’s turn against the Magpies.

There was no room for Mesut Ozil in the matchday squad.

No Islam Slimani for Newcastle

After for Newcastle, is time running out for Islam Slimani to impress in the north-east?

Slimani joined the Magpies in the January transfer window on loan from Leicester.

But the Algerian international struggled with injuries in his early days on Tyneside. And, despite the fact that Slimani is now fit, Rafa Benitez left the forward on the sidelines again against Arsenal.

Newcastle fielded the same elevn who started against Leicester City last weekend.
