PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has this afternoon revealed the advice he gave to fellow French youngster Ousmane Dembele before his switch to the Camp Nou to join Barcelona.
Mbappe himself was at the heart of one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer, with PSG eventually beating off competition from the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and Liverpool to snap up world football’s most in-demand teen from Monaco.
He joined fellow superstar Neymar in moving to the Parc des Princes, with his French international teammate Ousmane Dembele heading to Catalonia to replace the Brazilian at Barcelona.
Dembele’s move to La Liga had looked in major doubt on a number of occasions during August, with the will of the player himself to push the transfer through having played a key role in proceedings.
Much was made of the former Rennes’ standout’s decision to skip training with Borussia Dortmund to force his club’s hand, with Mbappe today revealing that his fellow countryman came to him for advice on the decision.
‘We talked about it and he asked me what I thought. I told him to go there because it was a great opportunity for him.’
‘He can really become a great player alongside Messi and Suarez in attack. He’s really going to improve. He already has incredible talent, but he can make another step up.’
Mbappe was then questioned on the exorbitant price-tags attached to he and Dembele, with the former set to be purchased outright for 180 million Euro next summer and Barca set to fork out a possible 150 million Euro depending on the latter’s performances.
‘[Dembele and I] have a passion for football. All that about ‘prices’ or whatever doesn’t worry us. All we care about is the pitch.’
‘We want to play as we have always played since we started football, each of us in our home towns. It’s not a question of value or principle, it’s just a question of passion, feeling, of that love of the game.’
