An interesting interview has been doing the rounds on social media this morning regarding PSG striker Kylian Mbappe and Premier League champions Chelsea.
The story surrounding Mbappe’s club future turned out to be one of the talking points of the summer, following the prodigious youngster’s sensational breakout campaign with Monaco last season.
All of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and PSG were linked with moves for the French international at different points during the transfer window, with the latter of these sides eventually pulling off an incredible loan deal for Europe’s most in-demand teen on deadline day.
However, Mbappe himself has today revealed that his future could very easily have laid elsewhere, following a schoolboy trial with one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
The prolific 18-year-old was quizzed on a range of subjects at his PSG unveiling, with one reporter questioning whether he remembered a trip to play for Chelsea when he was 11.
‘It was a wonderful experience.’
‘Chelsea was the first great club, the first big club, that I went to visit.’
‘So it was a real discovery for me. We played against Charlton, I think, and we won maybe seven or eight nil.’
‘I also got to meet some of the first-team players – [Didier] Drogba, [Florent] Malouda – the French-speaking ones and took some pictures with them.’
‘An idea has been reinforced since I was a kid – not just because I went to Chelsea.’
The former Monaco star continued:
‘I always thought: ‘I want to be there, I want to be one of those big players who is trying to give people fun out of the game.’’
‘And I have given everything to reach that objective.’
‘Now I am on the other side of the camera, on the other side of the TV. That’s the only difference.’
Further information regarding the trial has since leaked, with the Telegraph reporting:
