Jurgen Klopp delivers mixed update on midfield duo ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with Man United

Man United vs Liverpool

The weekend’s marquee Premier League clash is set to play out on Sunday afternoon.

The tie in question will see Manchester United and Liverpool face off at Old Trafford.

Liverpool head into the game on a fine run of form. The Reds would go to Spain in midweek and came away with an impressive 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid to ensure that they have picked up maximum points from their opening three Champions League games of the season.

Elsewhere, in the Premier League, Liverpool are the only side in the division yet to lose a single game this term.

Granted, they have drawn three of eight, but it is still an impressive record which puts them just one point off table-toppers Chelsea ahead of the upcoming gameweek.

And, on paper, Manchester United should not be that hard to overcome this weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have a pretty poor record against the top English clubs of late, and are also in fairly bad form, having failed to win any of their last three league outings.

Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool team news

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Jurgen Klopp would speak to the press on Friday.

The German discussed a number of topics in his press conference, including team news.

And it proved a mixed update, as Klopp confirmed that Curtis Jones should be back in contention to feature versus Man United. However, Thiago Alcantara remains sidelined, and Klopp is not sure if the Spaniard will be back before the November international break:

“Back running, good sign, maybe he will be back before international break or for sure after.”
