Trippier excels in Russia
The 2018 World Cup in Russia was one of the best in recent memory for England.
Gareth Southgate’s side exceeded all expectations and reached the semi-finals.
England would even win a penalty shootout for the first time at a World Cup.
One of England’s stand out stars was Kieran Trippier. The full-back was an excellent attacking threat and scored an impressive freekick vs Croatia in the semi-final.
Trippier’s mediocre season for Tottenham
While Trippier certainly won the hearts of England fans last summer, the 28-year-old has struggled for form in the Premier League.
Trippier has featured 23 times in the league this season for Spurs, scoring one and assisting three.
However, the defender has put in several poor displays this season, causing him to be targeted by some of Tottenham’s fans.
Trippier is himself aware of his poor form and hoping to get back to his best during the current international break:
“I could have done a lot better this season.
“I’ve picked up a lot of injuries and there’s been games when I’ve looked back and watched, and thought ‘I could have done this better’, ‘I could have done that better’.
“It’s all about learning, but I admit I could have done a lot better. I am here now and I need to try to impress to try and start for England and try and do the best I can with every opportunity I get between now and the end of the season.”As quoted by the Telegraph.
England will play Czech Republic this coming Friday before facing Montenegro next Monday.
