De Bruyne: I voted for Liverpool’s Mo Salah

Ahead of Wednesday’s match, Kevin De Bruyne has spoken to BT Sport.

During his interview, the Belgian playmaker has confirmed he’s voted for Mohamed Salah as his player of the year.

To be clear, under the POTY voting rules, players are unable from voting for another on their own side.

While KDB could have opted for someone like Tottenham’s Harry Kane, he gave credit to his chief rival for the top prize:

I voted for Salah for footballer of the year because he deserves it. If it’s nobody from our team I think Salah deserves it.

I don’t look at what happened before I don’t know how to pick anyone else other than Salah if I can’t pick someone from my team.

I don’t know if he would vote for me, I’m fair you know, if he wins he wins. He is up there with Kane, me and David for me. They are the four best players of this year consistently. I’m honest with my voting, he deserves it, if other people don’t do it I don’t mind.

When it comes to the stats, De Bruyne has 11 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season. In the Premier League, KDB has 15 assists and seven goals.

Liverpool’s Salah, meanwhile is the top goalscorer in the league with 29 goals.

Salah has also chipped in with nine assists in the Premier League.
