Kevin De Bruyne comes back to haunt Chelsea with PL benchmark goal against former club
A statistic surrounding the goalscoring exploits of Kevin De Bruyne against former club Chelsea has added to the woes of the Pensioners this evening.
Citizens in control
The marquee fixture of the Premier League weekend is of course currently playing out at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea welcomed City to southwest London, for a highly anticipated showdown.
The two sides headed into proceedings amid altogether contrasting spells of form, with the hosts having managed just a solitary victory from their last 6 across all competitions, and Pep Guardiola’s visitors riding a 3-match win streak.

Nevertheless, few could have predicted just how one-sided the opening 45 minutes in the English capital would go on to prove.
A scintillating City display saw the Sky Blues race out to a 3-0 advantage inside 35 minutes.
Ilkay Gundogan opened the evening’s scoring, spinning Thiago Silva on the edge of the Chelsea box, before directing a pinpoint effort into the far bottom corner:
Ilkay Gundogan scored Manchester City’s first goal, finishing off a spell of passing with this slick turn and finish 🔥🇩🇪 Could Mendy have done better?

And it was 2-0 just moments later, as Kevin De Bruyne picked out Phil Foden to slot home a classy finish inside Edouard Mendy’s near post:
CITY DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! ⚡️
In a matter of minutes Guardiola’s men have raced into a two-goal lead, as Foden casually sweeps it past Mendy.

KDB adds to Blues’ woes
It was City’s 3rd just past the half-hour mark, though, which, as outlined above, saw Kevin De Bruyne truly add insult to the injury of former club Chelsea.
After seeing a Raheem Sterling strike cannon off the post, Belgian international De Bruyne did superbly to control with his first touch, before sweeping home a typically clinical finish with his right.
As has since been revealed, this marks the 4th time that the City standout has managed to find the net against his ex employers.
This marks a new Premier League benchmark, with no player to have lined out for Chelsea having ever managed more goals when returning to face the Pensioners:
