Kai Havertz’s Chelsea transfer won’t be happening soon & Olivier Giroud explains his Norwich goal celebration

Kai Havertz’s Chelsea transfer isn’t happening soon

The Athletic’s German football expert, Raphael Honigstein, has posted an update on Chelsea’s interest in signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

According to his understanding, Kai Havertz’s Chelsea transfer isn’t happening soon.

Does that mean Chelsea will not sign Havertz? No, he’s not saying that.

Instead, Rafa Honigstein has issued the following warning to Chelsea’s supporters:

Reports that Chelsea have shown a renewed interest are accurate.

Due to the sheer number of potential takers and Bayer’s intransigence, it would be wrong to suggest that Chelsea are somehow in the lead of this race, however.

The Athletic was told by a source close to Chelsea that the Premier League club, Leverkusen and Havertz are currently “miles apart” in terms of striking a potential deal.

Fabrizio Romano on the Chelsea-Havertz transfer story

Italian transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, has also confirmed that it’s going to be some time before any potential Chelsea-Havertz deal reaches it’s conclusion.

He’s confirmed that “no official talks have started between Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea yet”.

Fabrizio Romano has also rubber-stamped reports that Chelsea are willing to offer Havertz a 5-year deal should he complete a move to Stamford Bridge.

What we’ve previously learned about Chelsea’s interest in Kai Havertz

On Sunday, Sport Bild’s head of football, Christian Falk, claimed that Chelsea are unlikely to sign Kai Havertz if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

The good news for the Blues is that, following a 1-0 win over Norwich, they are on course for a top-4 Premier League finish.

But, even if Chelsea don’t finish in the top 4, does Havertz really have any other alternatives to the Pensioners?

After signing Leroy Sane from Man City, Bayern Munich seem to be out of the race for the 21-year-old playmaker.

Meanwhile, while Real Madrid continue to be linked to Havertz, the Spanish side don’t seem to have the funds to convince Bayer to sell.

By contrast, Bild have reported that Chelsea are willing to meet Bayer’s €100m valuation for Havertz. However, the Blues are looking to structure the payment through instalments.

The German outlet suggest that Chelsea could offer €70m up front, and €30-40m at a later date.

Chelsea 1 – Norwich 0

A header from Olivier Giroud just before the halftime break was enough to earn Chelsea three valuable points against Norwich on Tuesday night.

The win lifted Chelsea onto 63 points. The Blues are 3rd in the Premier League table, 4 points clear of Leicester City and Man United.

Olivier Giroud explains his Norwich goal celebration

After he scored his header, Olivier Giroud performed an eye-catching goal celebration.

The French striker acted out writing something on a piece of imaginary paper.

Was Giroud indicating that Chelsea should hand him a new long-term deal? No, apparently not.

In a post match interview, Giroud gave the following explanation for his actions:

Oh. I play scrabble with N’Golo Kante! That’s it.
