Kai Havertz asks to leave Bayer Leverkusen & Chelsea willing to pay €100m in installments

Kai Havertz asks to leave Bayer Leverkusen

According to Bild on Wednesday, Kai Havertz has asked to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Of course, the German season is now over. The curtain was closed last weekend when Bayern Munich beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in the German Cup final.

Havertz scored a penalty in the defeat to Bayern.

So has Havertz handed in a formal transfer request in an effort to force his exit from Bayer? Bild don’t state that clearly.

Havertz is under contract with Leverkusen until 2022.

Chelsea willing to pay €100m in instalments

According to Bild, two clubs are in the running to sign Havertz: Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Chelsea seem to be better positioned to get the deal done.

Indeed, it’s claimed that Chelsea are willing to meet Bayer’s €100m valuation for Havertz, however the Blues are looking to structure the payment through instalments.

Bild suggests that Chelsea could offer €70m up front and €30-40m at a later date.

It’s worth remembering that German news outlet SportBuzzer have also previously reported that Chelsea are willing to pay €100m for Havertz.

SportBuzzer also said Roman Abramovich has reportedly spoken to Havertz on the phone in an effort to close a deal.

Italian reporter Alfredo Pedulla has also revealed that Chelsea are in talks with Havertz’s agent about the transfer.

Nico Schira, another Italian reporter, has claimed that Chelsea are ready to offer Havertz a 5-year contract worth €8m a season.

Havertz has made 148 appearances for Leverkusen since making his first-team debut in 2016, registering 45 goals and 31 assists.

Will Havertz end up joining Real Madrid?

Bild note that Real Madrid are also in the race to sign Havertz. However, it’s unclear whether Los Blancos have the finances to outbid Chelsea for the 21-year-old playmaker.

It’s suggested in Bild that Real would need to sell players before they could make a move for Havertz.

But would Havertz prefer to move to Madrid than west London? Sportbuzzer seem to think so, as they’ve previously told their readers:

– Kai Havertz wants to join Real Madrid, and

– Real is Havertz’s dream club, and

– Havertz is moving to Spain.
