Gini Wijnaldum talks to Raphael Honigstein
On Wednesday in The Atheltic, German reporter Raphael Honigstein has posted a new interview with Liverpool’s Dutch international midfielder Gini Wijnaldum.
Spots in Liverpool’s midfield are at a premium this year with the return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.
Yet, despite increased competition for places in midfield at Anfield this season, Wijnaldum has so far been a mainstay for Jurgen Klopp.
Wijnaldum played 90 minutes against Man City in the Community Shield, and against Norwich in the Premier League.

‘Jurgen Klopp wore Cristiano Ronaldo branded underwear’
During the interview, Wijnaldum has revealed an excellent story about how Klopp relaxed his squad before the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Wijnaldum told the following tale:
We saw (Klopp) was wearing the boxer shorts of Cristiano Ronaldo.
He did the meeting with his shirt stuffed inside his ‘CR7’ boxers. The whole changing room was on the floor laughing their heads off.
That really broke the ice. Usually in those situations, everyone is serious and concentrated. But he was relaxed and made this joke.

Real Madrid 3 – Liverpool 1
Of course, Real Madrid went on to beat Liverpool on that occasion.
Liverpool’s game turned when Sergio Ramos injured Mohamed Salah, and the Egyptian was forced out of the match.
Karim Benzema opened for Los Blancos early in the second-half, before Sadio Mane levelled.
Gareth Bale then stole the headlines with a brace, including one of the greatest ever goals in a major final.
