Jurgen Klopp responds to Roberto Firmino’s Anfield goal drought

Jurgen Klopp has recently spoken out over Roberto Firmino’s poor goal-scoring record at Anfield this term.

Liverpool held by Burnley

Saturday’s only 3pm Premier League kick-off saw Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield.

The Reds have had the title wrapped up for some time now, but they were still chasing a number of records ahead of the clash with the Clarets.

One such record could have seen Liverpool become the first side to win every home game in a single English top-flight season since all the way back in 1892.

And after Andy Robertson headed the hosts into the lead after 34 minutes on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp and co. looked set to be just one game away from matching this stunning feat.

However, Jay Rodriguez equalised for the visitors with just over 20 minutes remaining, and Liverpool were unable to find a reply.

Klopp not worried about Firmino

Whilst Liverpool’s home record this term, regardless of two dropped points vs Burnley, has been exceptional, Roberto Firmino has struggled a fair bit at Anfield.

In fact, should the Brazilian fail to score against Chelsea in 10 days’ time, he will have gone an entire league campaign without netting a home goal.

Obviously, Firmino isn’t a typical centre-forward, and isn’t overly relied on to score for Liverpool. But even so, such a stat, for many, would come as a major concern.

However, one man who seemingly isn’t too bothered by Firmino’s goal drought at Anfield is Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking about the hitman post-Burnley, the Liverpool boss stated:

“It cannot become a psychological problem for him because Bobby played an outstanding game today and we don’t judge him, so I hope he won’t read your newspaper if you make a story of it.

“We just don’t think about it. It’s not important who scores. We need Bobby for other things. We need Bobby in exactly the spaces where he was today. We need him as the link-up for all the other things.

“We only have chances because Bobby plays the way he plays, and he will score, there’s absolutely no doubt about it. We are not worried at all about that, because he played an outstanding game today and was involved in so many decisive situations.

“Nobody scored apart from Robbo [Robertson] with a header, so it will not become a problem.”
