Jurgen Klopp provides latest Thiago update ahead of Newcastle vs Liverpool

Newcastle vs Liverpool

Liverpool face a trip to Newcastle on Wednesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will head into the clash at St James’ Park no doubt keen to bounce back from a 1-1 draw with West Brom last time out.

Despite their dropped points versus the Baggies, the Reds managed to maintain top spot in the Premier League table, and could extend their advantage over the chasing pack even further on Wednesday.

As for Newcastle, they are winless in three, and slowly dropping down the table.

Jurgen Klopp on Thiago

Ahead of his side’s trip to Tyneside, Jurgen Klopp recently spoke to the media.

The Liverpool boss opened up on a number of topics, including the fitness of Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard has been limited to just two appearances for the Reds since arriving from Bayern Munich, due to a combination of injury woes and Covid-19.

With fixtures now coming thick and fast, though, the Liverpool faithful are no doubt desperate to see Thiago back on the pitch – especially for meetings with the likes of West Brom, against whom the midfielder could have proven key in carving out a 2nd goal.

However, when asked if Thiago could feature vs Newcastle, Klopp stated:

No, Thiago did parts of training so far, was in… today is Sunday, so on Friday he trained the full session but the session was a reduced session, so he could do that.

He has to be part of team training, it’s not about training one day with the team and then you can play football in the Premier League again.

It looks quite promising in the moment but I cannot say more about it, to be honest. I don’t know. I think the plan was that he trains tomorrow [Monday] completely normal but we will see that.
