Jurgen Klopp provides double Liverpool injury update after Watford

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided fitness updates on two members of his squad, on the back of the club's meeting with Watford.

The players in question? Curtis Jones and Joel Matip.

Midfielder Jones was afforded a rare Premier League start this afternoon, joining Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara at the heart of the hosts' engine room.

The English youth international, though, was forced out of proceedings just beyond the hour mark, after picking up what appeared to be an ankle problem.

Speaking post-match, Jurgen Klopp, in turn, was inevitably asked for an update on Jones' wellbeing.

"He twisted his ankle and wanted a strapping, but we wanted to change anyway. He obviously could walk normally but I didn’t see him yet."

Stopper Matip, on the other hand, did manage to see out the full 90 minutes at Anfield on Saturday.

The Cameroonian, however, picked up what Klopp described as a 'golf ball'-sized bump on his head, owing to a clash late in proceedings. Matip, nevertheless, is expected to 'be fine' ahead of Liverpool's upcoming Champions League showdown with Benfica:

Fabinho amongst the goals

Such fitness concerns of course came in the midst of what proved another altogether positive afternoon's work for Klopp's Reds on Saturday.

This came as goals on the part of Diogo Jota and substitute Fabinho ultimately guided Liverpool to all three points, courtesy of a 2-0 triumph.

The Merseysiders, in turn, climbed temporarily clear of Manchester City to the Premier League's summit, only for the Sky Blues to secure a 2-0 win of their own at Turf Moor, to reclaim table-topping status a short time later.
