Jurgen Klopp insists fans should not get carried away after West Ham win

Limiting expectations

Liverpool got their Premier League season off to a great start as they beat West Ham 4-0 on Super Sunday but Jurgen Klopp is limiting expectations.

The Reds performance at Anfield was impressive, with West Ham very rarely threatening.

They were mainly impressive in attack though, as they scored four goals past a Hammers side who were tipped for big things this season.

Sadio Mane scored two goals as Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge rounded out the scoring.

Naby Keita also impressed on his competitive debut for the club and fans are already getting excited.

Don’t get ahead of yourselves

Now, Jurgen Klopp has moved to limit expectations and claimed they can’t be ‘anything other than the challenger’ this season.

“There are expectations but we have expectations as well,” Klopp explained, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“We realised there was a very positive atmosphere around us all pre-season, it’s good that people are positive.

“But people know as well that this season will be unbelievably hard. We can’t be anything other than the challenger because we didn’t win anything in a long time.

“So we have to invest more, we have to fight more, we have to create more. That’s what we expect from ourselves – then we will see where we are.

“It’s a very good start for sure, but it is the first game so not perfect. There were times we were not as compact as we should have been, but the job for the boys at the moment is to work really hard and be ready for the moment.

“And at the end of the season, the plan is that they are all happy and have played an important part.”
