Good news for Liverpool fans
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given a big update on goalkeeper Alisson Becker, ahead of the Reds’ clash with Sheffield United this weekend.
Alisson was pivotal in Liverpool’s Champions League triumph last season.
The Brazilian kept the most clean sheets in both the Premier League and Champions League.
However, his second campaign at Liverpool didn’t start the way he would have hoped.
Alisson was injured in the opening game of the season when Liverpool hosted Norwich.
That left summer signing Adrian as the number one goalkeeper, and the Spaniard has featured ever since.
Now, Alisson is closing in on his return from injury, according to Jurgen Klopp.
Alisson could return to training this Sunday
The Liverpool boss has revealed that Alisson could return to full first-team training from Sunday onwards.
That could put Alisson in contention for the clash with Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday, and, if not, then against Leicester at the weekend.
“Ali is in a good way. He did yesterday [Thursday], not with us but with the goalie coaches, a full session, so [he’s] getting closer and closer. We will see, now we have to talk to the medical department,” Klopp explained, as quoted by Liverpool’s official website.
“So Ali looks like he is close but the final word is with the medical department obviously, because we have to ask how it is exactly and that’s it.
“Ali is not in contention for tomorrow, it looks like maybe he can train with the team maybe from Sunday on. We don’t know 100 per cent, but he’s really close.”
