Jurgen Klopp claims Liverpool must spend to keep up with rivals

Liverpool set to spend in the summer window

Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool must ‘splash the cash’ in the summer transfer window, if they are to keep up with their rivals.

Liverpool had a pretty successful season in the last campaign.

The Reds only lost one Premier League game all season, pushing Manchester City to the final day in the title race, but Pep Guardiola’s side did not slip up.

However, it was their Champions League triumph that will see their campaign go down in history.

Liverpool saw off several top sides including Bayern Munich and Barcelona on their way to the final, where they beat Tottenham 2-0.

Now, Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool must spend in the summer transfer window, because that’s what their rivals are doing.

‘Everybody’s splashing the cash, so we have to do the same’

Speaking during the off-season, Klopp claimed that if Liverpool didn’t spend a similar amount to their competitors, they would be unable to compete.

As a result, he claims that Liverpool ‘have to do the same’.

‘Liverpool is an ambitious club and if we didn’t spend the same amount of money as others, we wouldn’t be able to compete,’ Klopp explained to ZDF, as cited by the Daily Mail.

‘Everybody’s splashing the cash, so we have to do the same.’

Manchester City have been heavily linked with big-money moves for both João Cancelo and Atletico Madrid’s Rodri in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Champions League final opponents Tottenham are being linked with Tanguy Ndombele.

Rivals Man United have also been linked with Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
