Jude Bellingham’s brilliant response to playing in Champions League at 17/ Phil Foden’s goal celebration explained

Jude Bellingham’s brilliant response to playing in Champions League at 17/ Phil Foden’s goal celebration explained

Dortmund beaten by Man City

Borussia Dortmund faced off with Manchester City on Tuesday evening in the first of two quarter-final ties.

The German outfit headed into the clash as the underdogs, after having a pretty woeful domestic campaign, that may well see them not even qualify for the Champions League next term.

Man City, meanwhile, are once again smashing the Premier League and are on course for a 3rd league title in four years.

Despite this, Tuesday’s tie was fairly close, with a late Phil Foden strike only just securing Pep Guardiola and co. the win.

Foden’s strike on the day was dedicated to Richard Green, a lifelong adviser and friend of the City star:

‘I’m not bad at football’

BVB probably feel somewhat hard done by, though, given they probably should have had a goal earlier in the tie.

Jude Bellingham had the ball in the back of the net after colliding with Ederson.

However, the referee blew for a foul before he scored, so VAR could not intervene to award what looked a perfectly legal goal:

Outside of his disallowed goal, Bellingham put on a display well beyond in his years.

And during an interview post-match, Bellingham was quizzed on playing in Europe’s most coveted club competition at such a young age.

The interviewer asked:

“You’re 17 years old, playing in the quarter-final of a Champions League with some of the best players in the world, do you pinch yourself sometimes that it’s all happening?”

To which Bellingham responded:

“Not really I just take it day by day you know, there’s a reason why I’m here, I put a lot of work in obviously – I’m not bad at football – so I try my best to kinda just every time I get the chance to go out there, just performing and I felt like I did that tonight. Made some tackles and you know helps with the goal so yeah, it’s not a bad evening personally but I always put winning ahead of everything.”
