Juan Mata after Man City
Every Monday Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata pens a weekly blog.
This week’s update must have been tough to write the day after Man City won 2-1 at Old Trafford.
City not only ended United’s unbeaten run at the Theatre of Dreams, they opened up an eleven point lead on the Red Devils.
Mata was a late second half sub for Jose Mourinho in the derby on Sunday.
Why Man United lost
The way Juan Mata tells the story, Man United lost to City because of luck:
Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish the week as we expected since the derby at Old Trafford didn’t work out as we wanted. City took the lead, we tied the score before the break but, in the second half, we couldn’t overcome their second goal.
We were close, but in the chances we had, the ball just didn’t go in.
Mata was also keen on trying to put the City game in perspective. And, without mentioning the Premier League title race specifically, he made the case for why Man City could yet be caught this season:
The truth is these are three points like in any other game, although the defeat is painful because it was a derby. We must carry on, knowing that there’s still a long way to go.
The list of fixtures is very demanding this month so it’s important to get to each game in the best condition possible. I think we have the ability to do it, even though we know these are the toughest weeks of the season.
