Josh Sims: Man of the match on debut

Josh Sims: Remember the name!

Southampton have a new young star and before Sunday it seems fair to say that very few football fans had heard of Josh Sims.

Just 19, Sims was handed his Premier League debut by Claude Puel on Sunday for Southampton’s home match against Everton.

And, Sims was super impressive for Southampton, notching an assist for Charlie Austin within a minute of the game kicking off.

Sims admits assist was a shot

After the game, Sims told the BBC that his assist for Austin was a shot, but we doubt anyone will really care as Southampton beat the Toffees and Ronald Koeman 1-0.

Southampton’s youth system has been lauded in the past and it looks like the club that produced Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and many others has done it again.

Sims played 84 minutes for Southampton and was awarded the man of the match award for his performance.

Twitter took a keen interest in Sims, who was trending for much of the game that was shown live by Sky Sports in the UK.

And, many wondered when Liverpool will be buying the Southampton attacking midfielder.
