Leicester 2 – Manchester United 2
How did Manchester United fail to beat Leicester?
It was not only the fact that Juan Mata had turned the game around with two goals for 2-1 to Manchester United.
The simple fact is that Manchester United missed easy chances throughout the match at Leicester.
Perhaps more worrying for Manchester United is that conceding late goals is becoming a habit.
United have conceded late goals to Basel, Bristol City and Leicester in recent weeks. This is nothing like “Fergie Time”…
Manchester City go 13 points clear
Jamie Vardy had put Leicester in front. From a delightful Riyad Mahrez assist.
Manchester United responded with two goals from Juan Mata, the second was a delightful free-kick.
The Leicester equaliser came with the final touch of the game – Harry Maguire scoring at the back post.
And, this was with Leicester down to 10 men after Daniel Amartey had been sent off.
Manchester City will be 13 points clear of Man Utd on Christmas Day – the biggest points gap between first and second place on December 25th in English top-flight history.
Jose Mourinho savages his Manchester United players
After the 2-2 draw with Leicester, Jose Mourinho absolutely savaged his players in pretty much every interview he gave at the King Power.
Jose Mourinho on Manchester United: “Childish in our box. Childish in their box. We have dropped two points today.”
The Special One seemed calm but took his players apart after describing the “joke chances”.
And, Mourinho constantly said it was an “easy match to win” – which he confirmed that he told his players at half-time.
Was Jose Mourinho to blame?
Whilst Manchester United missed some incredible chances at Leicester, was Jose Mourinho completely blameless.
Mourinho brought on Ander Herrera for Jesse Lingard, who was Manchester United’s best runner from midfield.
Similarly, Chris Smalling was left on, despite the fact he was clearly injured.
