Jose Mourinho should be judged on next season at Tottenham – Berbatov

Tottenham’s poor 2019/20

Tottenham fans will no doubt be keen for the 2019/20 campaign to draw to a close as soon as possible.

Spurs crashed out of the League Cup vs lower league Colchester earlier in the season under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Lilywhites have also struggled in cup competitions under new boss Jose Mourinho. They were knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16 by RB Leipzig, and lost out to a struggling Norwich side in the 5th round of the FA Cup.

And before the season was curtailed, Spurs were sat seven points adrift of 4th placed Chelsea in the Premier League table.

Mourinho should be given more time

Mourinho did provide some improvement when he first took the reins at Spurs, with the capital giants coming within a few points of the top-four.

However, Tottenham’s form has since taken a huge nosedive, with the club having failed to win any of their last six outings across all competitions.

Not managing to win one out of six and looking likely to miss out on CL football for the first time in several seasons may cause some fans to start to resent Mourinho.

However, former Spurs hitman Dimitar Berbatov has insisted that the Portuguese tactician should be judged on next season at the club:

“Things had gone sour under Mauricio Pochettino, anybody could see that, and I thought Jose Mourinho was a good choice to replace him.

“Tottenham haven’t gone backwards. Any head coach deserves a full season to bring in his players and implement his philosophy.

“Spurs are going through a difficult period, but Mourinho should be judged on next season at the club.” As quoted by the Mirror.
