Jose Mourinho has managed to make a cheeky dig at Liverpool after his side managed to secure a win against Watford in the Premier League despite Marco Silva’s side making a late play for a comeback.
The Manchester United boss has made it clear that he thinks anything can happen in football and noted that in the last couple of weeks, there have been games where sides had commanding leads, only for them to be diminished later on in the game.
The Mirror report Mourinho said: “It was an easy match to win comfortably, in the last minutes we should be smoking a cigar, but in the end it is three points. We had chances for four, five and six (goals).
“We had that in the first half. We finished the first half with a chance from an open goal. We had more in the second half, again and again. And we didn’t score.
“Watford gave us a couple of minutes where they felt anything could happen. This is football. Last week, Borussia Dortmund-Schalke, 4-0, 4-4.
“A couple of weeks ago, Liverpool (at Sevilla), 3-0, 3-3. That’s football.”
United know they have to get into the top four this season, but they are also chasing the title, with Jose Mourinho not giving up – yet telling his side they need to focus on themselves and making sure they go into the Manchester derby with the gap being eight points at most.
Obviously if City drop points in the meantime that would be ideal, but the chances of that happening given the way Pep Guardiola’s men are playing seem to be remote indeed.
