Why Jose Mourinho was sent off in Manchester United’s win

Manchester United edged past Southampton to continue their incredible start to the new season, however, manager Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands by referee Craig Pawson in the 94th minute.

Southampton 0-1 Manchester United

A first-half goal from Romelu Lukaku earned Manchester United a massive 3 points to keep them top of the league.

It was far from pretty, but a yet another tactical masterclass from Jose Mourinho forced his side the win.

Southampton desperately tried to produce an equaliser but were unable to break down an astute Manchester United side.

The Red Devils incredibly ended the game with six defenders on the field.

Southampton have now failed to scored in nine of their last 11 games at home.

Touchline controversy

Jose Mourinho is the king of drama on the touchline, proving that once again this afternoon.

Only two weeks ago was he involved in controversy as he refused to shake the hand of Mark Hughes in United’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City.

This time, he was sent off by referee Craig Pawson with just seconds remaining.

The Portuguese coach was dismissed for encroaching onto the pitch as he urged his players into position.

To give you an idea of just how animated he was, here is a video from just a few minutes prior to his sending off…

In response to his sending-off, Mourinho replied:

“I don’t know. You should ask the referee.”

Manchester United fans react

He knew exactly what he was doing…

“Playing football the Busby way”?…

Literally, the ONLY postive for Plaace right now…
