Jose Mourinho reveals new Man United role for Zlatan Ibrahimovic

New role

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could play in a new role to accommodate £90million striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian forward signed for the club in what could rise to a club-record fee and it is unlikely that the player would settle for a bench role.

In similar vain, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not at the club to sit on the bench and would obviously look for a move if that was to be the case.

With that in mind, Jose Mourinho needs to find a way to keep both players happy and both players performing at their best on the pitch.

Now, the Portuguese manager has revealed that he may have found a solution to have both players in the team at the same time.

That involves playing Zlatan out of position in the number 10 role, though he has played in that role in the past.

“He played there last match in the period in the second half, when Lukaku played No 9 and Zlatan played No 10,” explained Mourinho.

“I know that was a period where his energy was going down but obviously there are spaces where a No 10 plays, and where Ibrahimovic – even when he was No 9 – [there are] spaces where he feels comfortable to play, so yes why not?”

Not only that, Mourinho dropped a big hint that the player could soon be starting for the Old Trafford side.

“He played one hour, a bit more [against Bristol City], could be that he is ready to start the match, 90 minutes probably too much, depends on the match.”

“I think he’s ready to start.”
