Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed he thinks his long term assistant Rui Faria would be a great fit for the Arsenal job once Arsene Wenger leaves come the end of the season – but that he would of course rather the coach stays with him.
Faria has been a huge part of Mourinho’s success over the last couple of decades and more than that, he is a close friend of the manager as well.
ESPN report he said: “You ask me if I think it would be a good fit and I say ‘yes.’
“And I say it because he is more than my assistant, he is my friend.
“If my friend has the possibility one day of a big job I would help him to pack and to carry the bags and to wish him luck.
“So if one day that is going to happen, the first one to be happy would probably be myself because I met him when he was a kid in his university and we were together for 18 years so he is a big friend, more than an assistant so if one day the moment arrives, I will be very happy.”
All focus will be on Arsenal this summer but Mourinho knows his United side will have to act in the January transfer window as well and make sure they at least attempt to catch up with Manchester City and try and stay ahead of the other sides in the pack – with Liverpool looking strong come the end of the season and possibly en-route to a Champions League title, which would mean the two great rivals of United have won major trophies, a nightmare scenario for their fans.
