Mourinho on finishing 2nd with Man United
Joe Mourinho finished the 2017/18 season 2nd in the Premier League with Manchester United.
Mourinho is one of the top managers in Europe, dominating the Premier League with Chelsea, winning La Liga with Real Madrid and bagging two Champions Leagues with FC Porto and Inter Milan.
As such, with such an impressive resume, it was quite bizarre when Mourinho said that finishing 2nd with United was his greatest achievement:
“I said nine or 10 months ago that after winning eight Championships, finishing second with United may have been my greatest achievement. Now people understand.” As quoted by the Independent.
The three problems at Old Trafford
However, after the Red Devils’ 2018/19 season drew to a close with a 2-0 loss to Cardiff, Mourinho may have actually been speaking the truth.
Man United had an awful season under both Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
They would finish 6th in the Premier League, winning just one of their last nine outings across all competitions.
Now, speaking as an outsider, Mourinho has named the three big problems at Old Trafford:
“The problems are there, you can say that these are the players, the organisation, the ambition.
“About United I want to say only two things: One is that time has spoken. Two is that the problems are still there.”
Mourinho was also asked if Paul Pogba was responsible for him being sacked back in December, to which he responded:
“I only say that I can not say yes when you ask if Paul was the only one responsible.” As quoted by the Independent.
