The last few games may not have gone as well as Chelsea would have hoped, but one player has undoubtedly shown great quality against Barcelona and Manchester United.
Willian is not always a fan favourite at Chelsea, but in the past three games the Brazilian attacker has been sensational.
Against Hull City in the FA Cup, Willian scored twice in a 4-0 win.
Willian: Four goals in three games
Versus Barcelona in the Champions League, Willian was a constant thorn in the side of the La Liga leaders, hitting the post twice in the first half.
Willian did eventually score the opener for Chelsea against Barcelona and also notched at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Perhaps Willian’s awesome recent form explains why Eden Hazard came off before the Brazilian in Chelsea’s loss at Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho hails Willian
Ever since Jose Mourinho arrived at Manchester United, he has been linked with signing Willian, a former player of his at Chelsea.
After the game on Sunday, Mourinho was asked by a Brazilian journalist about Willian and his reaction was quite incredible.
Mourinho is often dour in these post-match interviews, but you don’t need to speak Portuguese to understand this reaction!
The Manchester United told ESPN Brasil: “Do you want to talk about Willian? Top, cream of the crop, he’s amazing.”
On Willian’s chances of playing for Brazil in the World Cup, Mourinho added: “The Brazil manager [Tite] is really good with huge club experience. You guys will do great things in Russia.”
And, on his handshake with Antonio Conte, Mourinho told ESPN Brasil: “The handshake doesn’t need any words. I think that is what me and Antonio want to show to everyone. Mourinho and Conte they are not two ordinary persons in football. We have a history, we have an image, and I’m really happy with that.”
