Manchester United fans would have been surprised to see both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan absent from the team sheet ahead of their crucial match against Chelsea on Sunday.
It appears as though Mourinho has gone for a conservative approach, while priotising Thursday night’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Anderlecht.
The Europa League looks to be Man United’s best route to next season’s Champions League as Liverpool and Man City strengthen their spots in the top four.
When quizzed on Ibrahimovic’s absence by Geoff Shreeves, Mourinho cited the Swede’s tiredness.
Mourinho hinted that it was likely Zlatan would be brought on in the second half.
“He’s tired – very tired,” says Mourinho on Zlatan. “I’ll try to protect him but let’s see the result. He’s on the bench and ready to help.” pic.twitter.com/4VhjH70Usn
