Jose Mourinho claims he has won ‘25 and a half’ trophies after leading Tottenham to League Cup final

Jose Mourinho sacked

Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham stint came to an end on April 19th when he was sacked by the club.

The Portuguese endured a fairly mixed stint in north London, which included Spurs being knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb despite a 2-0 first-leg advantage.

Perhaps Mourinho’s biggest achievement whilst on the capital giants’ books, though, came when he guided the club to the League Cup final.

Mourinho’s 25 and a half trophies

The Lilywhites had not won a trophy since 2008 ahead of facing off with Manchester City in this year’s finale.

Mourinho, however, was not in the dugout for the clash, as he was sacked a week prior, with Ryan Mason having instead taken charge.

Granted, Mourinho was not enjoying the best stint with Tottenham, but he nevertheless looked a safer bet to get the better of Pep Guardiola’s City than Mason.

Regardless, Mourinho has since found another job in Serie A with AS Roma.

And now, the Portuguese has been reflecting on his Spurs stint. When doing so, Mourinho claimed that he has won 25 and a half trophies across his career to date, with the ‘half’ in question coming courtesy of the League Cup final clash he was forced to sit out in April:

“So if you want me to be proactive now you can ask me, ‘how many trophies have you won in your career?’ I’ll tell you 25 and a half. The half is the final that I didn’t play with Tottenham.

“You ask the guys who played lots of finals and everybody will tell you, ‘to play a final is a dream’ and it doesn’t matter if it is the first final or number 20 or number 50, a final is always a dream.

“A Wembley final is more than a dream, I played the first on the new Wembley and every time I go there, it’s more than a dream and to have a chance to win a trophy with a club that doesn’t have many of course was a double dream.

“I am the kind of guy that when I close the door of a club, I move and I just wish good to people, but in a funny way I would say I have 25 and a half titles because it’s something that marks my career which is not to play a final that I won the right to go there.”
