Jose Mourinho aims less-than-subtle FFP dig at Man City & Pep Guardiola following Newcastle win

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho this evening used his post-Newcastle interview to aim a cheeky dig at Manchester City, over their recent Financial Fair Play escape.

Magpies put to the sword

Spurs returned to action a short time ago, with a trip to St. James’ Park.

The matchup came as a key one for the north Londoners, who remain in the thick of the Premier League’s battle for a Europa League berth.

Mourinho’s men entered proceedings with spirits high, on the back of a North London Derby victory over Arsenal in their prior outing.

And, when all was said and done on Tyneside this evening, Tottenham’s upturn in form continued.

Heung-min Son put the visitors on their way inside half an hour, before Matt Ritchie levelled things up with a thunderous strike early in the 2nd-half.

A Harry Kane brace over the game’s remaining half-hour, though, eventually proved telling, as Spurs climbed above Sheffield United into 7th in the Premier League table.

‘Even better…’

As outlined above, meanwhile, on the back of his side’s 2nd-straight win, Jose Mourinho this evening took the opportunity to poke some fun at one of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals.

When discussing the squad at his disposal and their performance this evening, the Spurs boss was quick to heap praise on the Lilywhites’ stars:

‘It’s team ethics. It’s credit for the players. It’s credibility for the group.’

However, Mourinho also suggested that his side is in need of further reinforcements, whilst, at the same time, aiming an altogether less-than-subtle dig at Manchester City, following the controversial overturning of the Citizens’ FFP-based European ban:

‘We need good players. More than 10, more than 11, we need a good group of players.’

‘And if we can do that without breaking the Financial Fair Play, even better.’
