Jorginho impressing with Chelsea
The arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge has of course resulted in something of a squad shakeup.
Chelsea stars who were very much out of favour under Frank Lampard are now key cogs in the German’s machine.
The two names who stand out most are Marcos Alonso and Jorginho.
Alonso appeared to be Lampard’s third-choice left-back, whilst Jorginho only featured sparingly under the English tactician.
Now, though, the latter has re-established himself as a crucial figure at the base of the Blues’ midfield.
Jorginho has featured in all but one of Tuchel’s league outings to date, left on the bench only for a 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
Jorginho staying put
Despite his improved game-time at the Bridge, though, Jorginho’s agent has continued to talk up the possibility of his client returning to Napoli, from whom Chelsea signed the Italian back in 2018.
Speaking on Radio Kiss Kiss in March, Joao Santos revealed his belief that his client and Maurizio Sarri reuniting in Naples is a ‘wonderful idea’.
Earlier this week, meanwhile, Santos confirmed to Radio Marte that if Napoli were to make an offer for the Chelsea man, it would be evaluated.
On Friday, though, the Italian’s representative appears to have shut down any transfer speculation surrounding his client, for the time being at least.
Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Santos confirmed that Jorginho will remain at Chelsea ‘100 per cent’, adding that the midfielder is now focused on the Euros, and then the World Cup next year:
“He has a two-year contract with Chelsea. He is thinking about playing in the European Championships and then the World Cup in Qatar. He will remain at Chelsea, 100 per cent”
In the same interview, Santos was asked if Jorginho is likely to sign a contract extension at Chelsea.
The 29-year-old will have two years left to run on his deal come the summer, with it claimed back in January that he was in talks with the Blues over a new deal, that would run until 2025.
However, when drawn on his client’s future at the Bridge today, Santos remained rather coy:
“We will talk about it in a few months.”
