Jordan Pickford reportedly facing uncertain Everton future under Carlo Ancelotti

Jordan Pickford reportedly facing uncertain Everton future under Carlo Ancelotti

A recent report in the English media has cast doubt over Jordan Pickford’s future at Everton.

Pickford’s 2019/20

Jordan Pickford proved one of England’s standout stars during their impressive 2018 World Cup campaign in Russia.

Since returning to Merseyside, though, Pickford has been on something of a decline.

The 2019/20 campaign proved particularly concerning for England’s No.1, with his high-profile errors more frequent than ever.

Pickford made a number of major mistakes over the course of the season, the latest of which came on the final day, during Everton’s loss to the since-relegated Bournemouth.

The Toffees fell to a 3-1 defeat, with Pickford at particular fault for the Cherries’ 3rd of the day.

Pickford to be sold?

Such disappointing displays have, obviously, not gone unnoticed by Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian singled Pickford out for criticism last month following a questionable display vs Wolves, with Ancelotti having called on the shot-stopper to improve.

Now, as mentioned above, a recent report from the Star has cast doubt over Pickford’s long-term future at Goodison Park.

The Englishman currently has just under four years left on his Everton contract.

However, as per the Star:

Jordan Pickford is facing a battle to convince Carlo Ancelotti he still has a future at Everton.

It is added that Ancelotti doesn’t believe Pickford is reliable enough to help Everton push for a European berth next term, and is therefore willing to ‘axe him’.

The Star also claim that England boss Gareth Southgate was considering dropping Pickford for their two March friendlies, which were eventually cancelled as a result of Covid-19.

The report doesn’t mention any potential suitors for Pickford, but, realistically, during such a difficult financial period, is there a club who would actually be willing to stump up the fee required to land a struggling English international with four years left on his contract?
