Jordan Henderson responds to Roy Keane’s claims he shouldn’t be involved with England

Jordan Henderson responds to Roy Keane’s claims he shouldn’t be involved with England

‘Does he do quizzes in the evening?’

England saw off Romania on Sunday, in their final friendly clash before Euro 2020.

The Three Lions came away with a 1-0 win after Marcus Rashford stepped up to convert a spot-kick won by Jack Grealish.

In the UK, the game was broadcast on ITV, with Roy Keane one of the pundits overseeing proceedings.

The former Manchester United man, at one point, was drawn on Jordan Henderson during the clash.

Henderson had of course been out of action since February, and was only able to come on for the second half vs Romania.

Keane, in turn, voiced his opinion that the Liverpool captain should not be involved with England at the Euros:

 “I think it’s a huge distraction – he’s clearly not fit.

“I don’t think he should be involved. If he can’t start against Romania, he’s not fit.

“Physically and mentally, this game won’t be that tough for him to deal with, he’s an experienced player.

“He’s not kicked a ball for three and a half months and he’s going to European Championship? He can’t be right.”

Keane went on to question why the Three Lions would want Henderson around the country’s camp just for the sake of it:

“I’ve heard a lot of people say they want him around the place. For what?

“Does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing-song? Does he do quizzes in the evening? What does he do?

“Liverpool won’t be happy either.

“Surely Jordan doesn’t want to be around the place being some sort of cheerleader, you want to play and clearly he’s nowhere near it.”

Henderson responds to Keane

Henderson himself, though, has since responded.

The Liverpool star does not appear to have been overly phased by Keane’s comments, suggesting he actually found them quite funny:

“To be fair to Roy, he can say whatever he wants about me. He gave me my debut [at Sunderland] and I wouldn’t be here without him giving me that.

“I found it quite funny, actually.”

Henderson continued:

“Listen, we know a little bit more detail [about my condition], I know more detail and so does the manager, which Roy may not.

“But in terms of stuff like that, everyone’s going to have an opinion, everybody’s going to think they know better than everybody else.

“But for me all my focus has been on the last couple of months is working as hard as I possibly can to be in a position where I can contribute in the tournament and I’m very thankful I’m in that position now.”
