Speculation stemming from the British media suggests that John Stones could be in line for a new Manchester City contract.
John Stones improving
Stones of course earned a big-money move to Manchester City from Everton in 2016, for a fee believed to be around £50m.
Since his switch to the Etihad, though, it is fair to say that the stopper has been fairly inconsistent.
Though great with his feet, Stones often appears to lack in concentration and defensive awareness, which has led to him making some fairly high-profile mistakes for both club and country over the years.
However, since Ruben Dias arrived at Man City, Stones has looked much improved (barring of course his recent red card).
John Stones set for new deal
In turn, now, after reviving his Man City career, reports have begun to emerge that Stones could be set for a new contract.
His current deal with the Manchester outfit only runs until 2022.
But the Sun are reporting that Stones is in advanced talks over a new five-year contract, worth up to £39 million.
Guardiola quizzed on Stones’ contract
Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, was quizzed on such claims during his pre-PSG press conference on Tuesday. The Spaniard, though, gave little away:
I don’t know. No comment, itâs not my business. Itâs Txiki and the agent. (Stones has) had good, good moments during our time here but this season was his best. He had no injuries, he is stable and thatâs why he did a really good season.
