John Stones believes previous Champions League disappointments have made Man City stronger

Man City vs PSG

Manchester City and PSG are set to go head-to-head in the second of two Champions League semi-final meetings on Tuesday.

The tie will take place at the Etihad, at 8:00 PM UK time.

City, of course, head into the game boasting the advantage, after picking up a huge win in Paris last time out.

PSG took the lead in the reverse fixture within 15 minutes. However, a dominant second-half display from the Citizens eventually saw Pep Guardiola’s side come from behind to win 2-1, securing two huge away goals in the process.

Stones urges Man City to attack PSG in second leg

The result means that Man City could afford to lose 1-0 at the Etihad on Tuesday, and still secure a spot in this season’s Champions League final.

However, speaking to the media on Monday, John Stones insisted that the Sky Blues need to attack the game, and avoid taking on the mindset that the job is already done:

“I think we have to attack the game like every other game, to win. We’ve never gone into a game thinking the job’s done or we need to defend,” he said.

“It’s a downward spiral if we go into the game like that. We need to be who we are to win and play as Man City as everyone knows how we play. We’re excited for that and fully focused for the game in hand.”

Stones also went on to voice his opinion that Man City’s previous Champions League disappointments have made them stronger, and that Pep Guardiola’s men can use them as fuel for motivation:

“I do think with all the things that have happened have made us a stronger team, the disappointment of getting knocked out in harsh circumstances is hard to take so we’ve had to use it, especially this season, as fuel to motivate us.

“Push forward to take the next step and get our goal to win the Champions League. This season we’ve got a great chance to get to the final, hopefully we can do it. Just use the emotions of disappointment to motivate us to do better in seasons like this one.”
