Last week, Manchester City put David Silva up for interview to discuss the ordeal he went through with his son.
When speaking on Talk Sport, Dillon made claims that the club used Silva’s situation to deflect away from the recent negative press.
The football writer received huge backlash for the comments and has since apologised.
Dillon apologises for comments
CLARIFICATION: On TalkSport this morning, I reviewed Saturday’s papers. After discussing Jurgen Klopp’s reported comments about FFP and having related them to Man City, I moved on to discuss briefly an interview with David Silva. At no point did I claim that this had been MORE.

FURTHER: At no point did I claim this had been set up deliberately to deflect from City’s week of critical headlines. However, I did point out that the appearance of a such a human story could move the focus elsewhere. That is a legit observation in a proper paper review

FURTHER: To those who have been offended, I apologise. This was a genuine attempt to explain to the wider public the varied effects of different kinds of newspaper coverage and how different stories run concurrently.

Further to my comments on TalkSport which caused offence, I also offer my sincere apologies to David Silva and his family for any offence. None was intended but I fully accept and understand people’s reaction #MCFC
