Joey Barton has today revealed his opinion that Manchester United are better equipped than Man City to win the Premier League title this season.
Both Manchester clubs have started out the season in scintillating fashion, having picked up 5 wins and a draw from their opening 6 games, leaving them joint-top of the English top-flight.
Fans and pundits alike have unsurprisingly been locked in debate regarding which side has a better chance at maintaining the top spot by the time the season’s end rolls around, with United seemingly currently edging their city rivals as favourites.
‘The cold snap…’
The consensus among many experts is that, while Pep Guardiola’s City are playing the best football in England at present, that United’s physical nature, squad depth and ability to grind out results will eventually prove the difference.
One pundit who is a firm believer that the Red Devils are better equipped than their neighbours to lift the Premier League title this season (albeit for typically over the top reasons) is former Citizens midfielder Joey Barton.
The once-capped English international has never been afraid to speak his mind, and has today revealed his controversial opinion that the cold snap which hits England during the winter months will have a negative effect on City’s South American contingent.
Speaking in an interview with TalkSPORT, Barton explained:
‘I do (fancy United).’
‘I do mainly because the manager is a serial winner, he knows how to win.’
‘Also I think when the cold weather comes and the fixture congestion comes, I think Manchester United have got the physicality to deal with it.’
‘If you remember last year City started like a house on fire and then the cold snap comes in.’
‘Them South Americans, I’m not too sure they like it when it gets cold here.’
