Joel Matip remains a doubt for Liverpool vs Man United/ Fabinho previews Red Devils clash

Liverpool vs Man United

The upcoming weekend’s marquee Premier League clash will of course see Liverpool face Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

These two sides of course maintain a bitter historic rivalry.

Unlike in previous seasons of late, though, when one or both sides haven’t been at their best, Liverpool and Man United, this time around, are both viewed as genuine title contenders.

It is actually the latter who will head into the match at Anfield sitting at the Premier League’s summit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side saw off Burnley on Tuesday, lifting them three points clear of 2nd-placed Liverpool.

United are also one of the league’s in-form sides right now, with their opponents this weekend actually winless in three league outings.

Jurgen Klopp and co., though, have looked much better at home this term, and have not lost a Premier League tie at Anfield for some time now.

As such, Sunday’s clash is shaping up to be one of the biggest of the season so far.

Matip a doubt/ Fabinho previews United

Ahead of the fast-approaching matchup, though, Liverpool’s injury woes continue to persist.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are of course long-term absentees, leaving Joel Matip as the Reds’ only senior centre-back.

However, Matip has himself faced several fitness issues of late, and is now seemingly a doubt to face United.

As per a recent report from the Mirror, the Cameroonian is back running and working on the grass.

However, it is added that he is yet to return to first-team training, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly keen to see Matip come through a pair of sessions unscathed to be convinced of his readiness to start on Sunday.

Elsewhere, meanwhile, Fabinho has been previewing his side’s upcoming meeting with Man United:
