West Ham United goalkeeper Joe Hart has this evening been torn apart across social media, after his mistake allowed Peter Crouch to open the scoring during the Hammers’ clash with Stoke City.
The two sides went head to head in a crucial fixture in the fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League, with hosts West Ham having come into proceedings 7 points clear of Stoke and 6 clear of 18th-placed Southampton.

A predictably tense affair at the Olympic Stadium was subsequently played out this evening, with the scoring opened with just 10 minutes to go by Stoke’s Peter Crouch.
The goal, when it came, arrived courtesy of a major mistake on behalf of Joe Hart, after the English shot-stopper fumbled a relatively straightforward Xherdan Shaqiri strike from the edge of the box to allow Crouch to smash home on the rebound.
And, although Andy Carroll did go on to spare the blushes of his Hammers’ teammate with a brilliantly taken volley in the 90th-minute, the reaction to Hart’s clanger has nevertheless been absolutely ruthless online, with some of the best Twitter highlights below:
