Joe Gomez ‘asked Southgate not to send Sterling home’/Photos emerge of scratch on Liverpool star’s face

Further details surrounding the high-profile bust-up between Joe Gomez and Raheem Sterling have emerged online this evening.

Sterling dropped

Late last night, news exploded across the English media that Liverpool and Manchester City stars Gomez and Sterling had been involved in a heated exchange at England’s training base.

The two players had been called up by Gareth Southgate for the Three Lions’ latest round of Euro 2020 qualifiers.

However, on the back a coming together between the pair during Liverpool’s crucial victory over champions City in the Premier League on Sunday evening, tensions quickly resurfaced.

Reports suggest that Sterling was the aggressor in the incident, with the winger having grabbed Gomez by the throat.

And it was subsequently confirmed that he has, as a result of his actions, been dropped for England’s meeting with Montenegro on Thursday:

Sterling, though, was not actually sent home from the Three Lions’ camp.

He could therefore be back in contention to feature versus Kosovo on Sunday.

And this, according to the latest reports circulating this evening, may well be down to the intervention of Joe Gomez.

It is claimed that the Liverpool defender actually asked England boss Southgate not to banish Sterling from his squad’s latest gathering:

Furthermore, photos have emerged across social media, showcasing a scratch on Gomez’s face, apparently picked up during his scuffle with Sterling:
