Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has provided an explanation for Patrick Bamford missing out on a place in the club's matchday squad to face Brentford.

Hitman Bamford has of course endured something of a nightmare campaign to date.

Owing to a seemingly never-ending string of fitness issues, the English international has been restricted to just seven Premier League starts, on his way to a paltry two goals.

Positive signs, however, had begun to surface across the week to date, hinting that Bamford could yet be available for selection for Leeds' final day Premier League showdown with Brentford.

The Whites, of course, have made the trip to west London this afternoon, in the knowledge that they need to better the result secured by Burnley against Newcastle to ensure the club's top-flight status for another season.

All associated with the Yorkshire outfit, in turn, were no doubt left disappointed upon confirmation arriving that the aforementioned Bamford had been omitted from not only their side's starting XI, but the club's squad as a whole at the Brentford Community Stadium:

Speaking to the media ahead of the action getting underway in the English capital, Jesse Marsch was therefore inevitably drawn on the whereabouts of his star striker.

And, incredibly, Leeds' boss went on to reveal that Bamford, earlier in the week, was deemed 'fit and ready to go' for today's clash.

On Friday, however, the 28-year-old returned a positive test for Covid-19, and has since been left 'really, really sick'.
