Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has this evening taken to social media to point to a glaring problem with Jurgen Klopp’s stint in charge of the Reds.
Klopp, who took over at Liverpool in 2015, has come under heavy scrutiny this season, with his side having managed just 2 wins from their last 10 games across all competitions.
While the Merseysiders have often looked incredibly potent going forward, with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino creating chances at will, Klopp’s men have majorly struggled on the other side of the ball.
Despite having openly chased Southampton standout Virgil Van Dijk for much of the summer, the Reds headed into the current campaign with much the same backline as they utilised last season, after once again failing to secure the signature of a true leader to organise their defence.
In fact, not only did Liverpool fail to rectify their problems at the back this summer, but they have ignored their glaring defensive shortcomings for several transfer windows now.
Jamie Carragher was quick to point to this fact after the Reds were once again torn apart defensively this evening, with a Harry Kane inspired Tottenham putting 4 past Jurgen Klopp’s men at Wembley.
Taking to Twitter, ‘Carra’ highlighted the point that his former club have persisted with the likes of Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez in their back four, despite the fact that they were all signed by previous manager Brendan Rodgers and utilised in the Scot’s struggling defence.
Problem under Rodgers was conceding goals. 4 out of the back 5 still Rodgers signings two years on that can’t be right.
